AMD Confirms: Green Light for AM5 Support for Zen 6 Processors

Official support for AMD’s next-generation processor architecture, Zen 6, has been confirmed. ASUS and ASRock have announced that the new B850 series motherboards will be compatible with Zen 6-based Ryzen processors.

AMD is nearing the completion of its preparations for the upcoming Zen 6 processors. Recently, ASUS and ASRock made an official statement confirming support for AMD’s upcoming Zen 6 series. This marks the first time that the compatibility of Zen 6 with the current AM5 platform has been officially verified at the manufacturer level. The new processors are expected to arrive in 2026, covering everything from flagship-class to mainstream models.

AM5 Motherboards Will Offer Zen 6 Support

Recently, ASUS announced Zen 6 support by introducing its new B850M AYW OC motherboard. This motherboard, which features an extended 64 MB BIOS, can achieve speeds exceeding 10,000 MT/s in DDR5 memory. Furthermore, it offers advanced overclocking options with an external BCLK generator and is designed to be fully compatible with the Zen 6 architecture.

ASRock also confirmed Zen 6 compatibility for its new B850 motherboards in a promotional video shared on its Bilibili channel. Similarly, Gigabyte and MSI are also expected to make announcements in the same vein soon. With AMD sending Zen 6 engineering samples to its partners, manufacturers have already moved into the testing phase for the next-generation processors.

What Will Zen 6 Offer?

Zen 6 is scheduled for release in late 2026 or early 2027. AMD plans to maintain AM5 socket support until at least 2027. The new architecture is expected to increase the core count to 24 per chiplet, with the thread count potentially reaching 48. Additionally, leaks suggest that L3 cache capacity will reach 48 MB, and clock speeds will be in the 6.4–7.0 GHz range. These values surpass the Zen 4 limit of 5.7 GHz, representing AMD’s highest frequency target to date.

Moreover, Zen 6 will not be limited to desktop systems. The new architecture is said to be used in both Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox console and Sony’s upcoming PlayStation model.

On the desktop side, AMD will be a direct competitor to Intel’s Nova Lake architecture with Zen 6 processors manufactured using the TSMC N2X process. Both series are expected to feature high core counts and advanced AI accelerators. Finally, Zen 6 architecture processors are expected to be unveiled at Computex 2026 and go on sale in the second half of the year.
